Waking up in Iten, the county headquarters of Elgeyo Marakwet County, the home of champions. Sadly a cloudy day and the sunrise wasn't visible
Our aim was to explore more of the county, known for its amazing views of the Elgeyo escarpment, winding roads down to the Kerio valley, hills and a lot of greenery.
From Iten we followed the Iten Kapsowar road. Our target was to go to Kapcherop, the end of EMC we had not visited, while still taking in as much of the countryside as possible. At Makutano junction, we proceeded towards Karuna, then to Sergoit. Here we could see the Sergoit hill from the road. Seems it is within a private property. We joined the C50 as if headed towards Eldoret in order to get a good glimpse of the hill. From that road we got to see some giraffes in the grassland at the bottom of the hill.
We backtracked, now headed towards Moiben. A few kms later, we took a detour to check out a manmade lake we saw on google maps. Lake Ceaser, is about 2.5km from the tarmac. The Ceaser Waterfront Resort, is on the shores of the lake, from where you can enjoy boatrides and scenic views surroundings the lake. The breeze from the lake is nice under the scorching sun. we had lunch and were on our way.
Moiben... Nothing much there. This is more of an administrative town and not much to see from the road.
We took the road towards Kapcherop (it's the same road towards Kachibora). This is a very scenic road as you approach Cheborowa, with the hills lining the horizon.
Cheborowa. A tiny town surrounded by hills. Very scenic.
Drive from Cheborowa to Kapcherop did not have much else, just drive, stop, soak in the views, then repeat.
Kapcherop town is a relatively small town. Here you can see the Cherangany Hills from a distance.
Onwards towards Kachibora, Sibanga and we ended our day 2 in Kitale.
